Is your church safe? Is it secure? Does your church have a security plan? Would your church know how to respond if an active shooter entered the building? These are questions a lot of congregations, church staff, and leaders should consider after last Sunday’s shooting at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, TX that killed 26 and wounded 20.

Also, is your church prepared for other, more common threats?

Shane Vander Hart discussed this issue with Timothy Miller, the president and founder of LionHeart International Services Group, who is a church security expert. Miller is a 30-year military and law enforcement veteran who has commanded a special Marine Corps group that guarded nuclear facilities, identified and mitigated security threats against U.S. forces worldwide. He also served in the United States Secret Service assigned to the Washington Field Office, Miller coordinated all aspects of security for the President, Vice-President, and foreign heads of state on a regular basis. Regularly assigned to the Presidential and Vice Presidential Protective details, Miller was directly responsible for all aspects of security both domestically and internationally.

Miller is currently the Director of Security at Christ Fellowship in South Florida, a church of 30,000 with 7 campuses in South Florida.

Social media and the news has changed a lot over the last few years. How should Christians engage it? How do we discern what news is fake or accurate before we share it? How can we bring civility back to the social media realm?

Shane Vander Hart discussed this with Joe Carter. Carter, who has blogged since 2003, wears several hats. He is the communications specialist with the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, a senior editor for Acton Institute, an editor with The Gospel Coalition, and adjunct professor of journalism at Patrick Henry College.

If statistics are any indicator, may Christian parents will face the heart-rending actions of a wayward child. This child could be living at home or an adult child. They could lead lives inconsistent with the biblical faith they profess or perhaps reject the Christian faith altogether.

What should a parent do? How should they respond? What should they avoid?

Those are questions that Shane Vander Hart discussed with Scott Owen with Crosswalk Ministries in Ames, IA whose ministry offers biblical counseling and conciliation.

Scott provides sound advice to parents facing these difficult circumstances.
